Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved, and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

flower of forgetfulness – bloem van vergetelheid

Oh, flower of forgetfulness, just an hour away to the moon
Take a deep breath if you are reaching for truth
While you’re in the stupor
The door knocks and death takes another youth.

Poppies, red poppies…, red poppies…

Nina Simone – Poppies Lyrics

a field of poppies – klaprozenveld (2 foto’s)

A child ran through the meadow
on a sun drenched summer day
And then he stopped his play
And kneeled in a field of poppies.

Lieveheersbeestje op wandel – Ladybug on the move

Coccinellids are often conspicuously coloured yellow, orange, or red with small black spots on their wing covers, with black legs, heads and antennae. There is, however, great variation in these colour patterns. For example, a minority of species, such as Vibidia duodecimguttata, a twelve-spotted species, have whitish spots on a brown background. Coccinellids are found worldwide, with over 6,000 species described

flower picking garden – bloemenpluktuin Fleur d’Ellemieke

It is grown as an ornamental plant in gardens, where several cultivars have been selected with varying pastel colours, including pink and purple. Cornflower is also grown for the cutflower industry in Canada for use by florists. The most common colour variety for this use is a doubled blue variety such as ‘Blue Boy’ or ‘Blue Diadem’. White, pink, lavender and black (actually a very dark maroon) are also used but less commonly. A relative, Centaurea montana, is a perennial plant also cultivated as a garden plant. Cornflowers germinate quickly after planting.
